The Eureka 2991AVZ Altima is a vacuum cleaner with a powerful suction and great performance in cleaning carpets. The 2991AVZ Altima is a versatile design with a number of useful attachments that make vacuuming very convenient.
This is an upright and bagless model with a built in dust cup. You can forever dispense with buying disposable bags.
Features & Performance
It is very easy to clean the dust cup once it is filled. There are no messy filters in the dirt cup that usually make cleaning difficult.
The unit is powered by a powerful 12 amp motor. You can reach most inaccessible places with its power cord as it is 30 feet long.
A HEPA filtration system is very necessary to keep the surroundings in your home not just clean of dust but also virtually free of various allergy causing agents such as dust & microscopic particles, pollen and dust mites. Such a feature is a boon for people suffering from allergies.
The Altima 2991AVZ comes equipped with a HEPA filter that removes 99.99% of allergens. You also don't need to clean the filter very often.
It ships with a number of tools for helping you with various vacuuming tasks. It has a Telescopic Self Cleaning Duster. This attachment uses electrostatic charges to pick up dust from delicate and hard to reach places. Its Power Paw with Turbo Visor picks up pet hair from upholstery, stairs and other hard to reach places.
A 15" cleaning head means that you need to use fewer vacuum strokes to clean a surface.
Summary
It is not a very expensive vacuum cleaner. As per users feedback, the model performs well in cleaning carpets and picking up pet hair. There are a few issues relating to overall build quality and reliability of the unit.
If you have a small family and are living in a small apartment that is not very heavily carpeted then you can definitely consider buying this unit.
About a year ago, I purchased the above model/serial number and since then, i have been nothing but disappointed with the unit. My dining room and living room carpet is a little older and not a very fluffy carpet, and this unit simply scatters the dirt back at me. I can actually feel dirt bouncing off of my shins. The only room that i can effectively use the vacuum cleaner in is my bedroom, it has a thicker carpet. In fact when I move the vacuum after I have finished "vacuuming" there is always a little pile of dirt that the vacuum can't manage pull up into the canister.
I also own a cordless combover unit that I use for my kitchen floors. This has zero suction power. In fact it can't even pick up the little piles left over by my normal vacuum.
Time to kind a new brand.
Great for the price!

My old vacuum broke so I went to Target and this was on sale - and it's been great! Yes, there are a lot of filters - but isn't that a good thing? I can't believe the stuff it gets out of the carpet - yuck! I prefer bagless too.
Another way I could tell how well this vacuum works is when I steam clean my carpets now - the return water isn't nearly as dark as before. I've read the reviews and all I can say is that I would recommend this vacuum to anyone (but get it on sale). Over $100 is too much.

I've had this vacuum for about two years, and it was terrible practically the whole time. It was fairly inexpensive, and by the time I realized it had better use as a coat rack, it would have been too much of a hassle to take it back. After the first couple of months, I noticed that the suction had just about disappeared. I detached the hoses and saw the the dust and debris was just getting caught and not getting to the easy empty cup. I had to use my 20-year-old Eureka canister vacuum (that has great suction, but doesn't work well on carpets) to clear out the hoses. The vacuum starting suctioning again, but I had to vacuum the hoses out AGAIN. It's as though I have to use a different vacuum to clear the hoses on this vacuum each time I use it.
I recently moved into a home with mostly bare floor. I tried to use this vacuum, with the dial set to bare floor, and by the time I completed about a 3 foot by 5 foot area, it was SMOKING. Stay away from this vacuum.
useless.

I experience the same issues as everyone else. As I vacuum I can feel the dirt getting blown out the back onto my feet. Don't even think about using powder odor eliminator on the carpet. It gets stuck on the foam filter and then everything goes downhill from there. I just spent 20 dollars buying new filters when I should have saved the money and bought a new vac.
Does Not Suck, It Spits!

This vacuum gave me the same problem it gave a lot of the other reviewers. As I would vacuum an area and move away I would notice the vacuum had spit out dust and dirt on the area I just vacuumed. Who in the Eureka Research and Development signed off on this turd? They had no right releasing this reject on the market. This is my first Eureka product and will be the last. They deserve to lose their market share and should have their entire executive and management structure overhauled for this oversight. If they let this piece of crap out the door then what else have they unleashed on the buying public?
