I think all that gave this vacuum cleaner wrote their reviews after a couple uses. Mine lost suction after a month. Cleaning the filter does not improve anything.
Eureka Altima Bagless Upright Vacuum 2996AVZ

This Product is CRAP...I have purchase many vacuums in my days, but this one takes the cake. Eureka themselves will not help you in any way except to ask you to buy accessories to possibly help you. If you can get it to vacuum carpet without getting clogged or the hose coming up plugged if you have any other flooring around carpet you will need another vacuum to vacuum that flooring up for the Eureka will spit lint all over it and will not pick it up. DO NOT PURCHASE...TRUST ME

Eureka should be prosecuted for ripping off the public with this junk! I bought a Eureka Boss Whirlwind Lite in 2003 for about $100, and it served me well until the motor died in 2010. For the price it was a good vacuum. I thought I would stay with Eureka for the 7 years they gave me. Well this trashy vacuum didn't last one day without breaking down. The belt breaks every 5-6th time using it, the carpet fibers and dust clog up in the upper chamber, with was designed too small to let the material flow to the dirt cup. Now you have to take off an empty dirt cup to manually pull out the fibers and dust from up above, and remove some plastic piece to get your hand up there. On bare floors it spits out the dust under the unit onto your feet. You need another vacuum cleaner to clean up after this one.
The enginners at Eureka had to see what junk this was in their testing trials. Instead of junking the design and starting from scratch, they didn't want to throw away thousands of dollars in design time and materials, so they just ignored the flaws and sold as many of them as possible, just to make money on the design and materials. If this was a car, it would have caused a fatal accident and they would have been prosecuted for millions. Eureka figures they can get away with this because it is only a $100 item. Who will sue for this? They sold millions of them and made a tidy profit on them all. I found mine in a Big Lots store, a closeout for $55. It was refurbished, and now I know why. Thousands must have been returned when they were first sold, and they were selling for over $150 when they came out. I thought I was getting a bargin. There are no bargins out there. You get what you pay for. This shows what Eureka will do to sell a vacuum. I will never buy another Eureka product ever! Like the Who sang, "We Don't Get Fooled Again".
Hate this Vac!

Reviewer: Kim Kazanjian,
Bought this vac at Kohls for my mothers day gift, and what a disappointment! I too thought after the first use that it was great, but now...after replacing 2 belts and spitting dirt, clogs easily and I am hating bagless. Now my vaccuum will make the room smell like smoke and then like crap. Don't waste your money... I am now looking to see what is recommended and there is another Eureka 4870MZ, but now I am a little skeptical. Thoughts?

We've had this vacuum cleaner for about 3 years now. At first it was great. I loved the cup that caught all the dirt. But over the course of the last 2 1/2 years I've discovered what a pain this vacuum cleaner is. Not only is there a cup to empty, there is also a little filter type thing inside where the cup is that needs to be emptied on a regular basis because it catches all the hair and dust bunnies before that stuff gets to the cup. And there is the filter on the front that catches small particulate matter and that needs to be replaced or cleaned on a regular basis and they are not cheap. Then, there is a HEPA filter at the bottom that needs to be replaced on occasion. If that were not enough the tube that wraps around the back gets all full of dust and such that needs to be cleaned out. I have had to do all this cleaning of the cleaner with another vacuum cleaner!!! A simple vacuum with a big old bag would do a much better job that this waste of money machine that creates a much bigger mess than it cleans up. There are some serious design flaws in the machine and it seems they were created purposely so owners would have to continue to invest money in filters for it. If I were in the market for a new vacuum cleaner I would seriously consider other models before purchasing this one. As a matter of fact I don't think I'd use this machine if they were given away for free!
